Latest Obsession.

Lately, I have been obsessed with having shakes every morning or afternoon. I'm not sure why. Perhaps because it feels summery, or because it makes it so easy to get an extra couple hundred calories in, or maybe, just maybe its purely because they are totally delish? I don't like to brag, but I make a mean fruit shake. And I just recently started experimenting with something that's been popular here in the blogosphere for awhile: Green Monsters.

Here's three of my favorites thus far:

This one features: 1 c. soymilk, 1/5th tofu, 1c. frozen strawberries, 1/2c. frozen blueberries, some agave, and a TBS of White Chocolate PB.

This one looks pretty similar, I know. But this one is: 1/2 cup coconut milk, 1 container plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 c. each blueberries/strawberries, 1 c. baby spinach and some strawberry syrup. ^.^ I had this with a slice of toast topped with PB as an after-run snack. It was lovely.

This shake is the one I had before work yesterday. It was BOMB. I used 1 cup soymilk, 1 cup blueberries, 1/2 c. strawberries, 1c. spinach, 1TBS cocoa powder, 1/2TBS agave nectar and a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter. Definitely having this shake again. It was probably one of my favorites thus far. It kept me full from 8:30 to noon when I got my first break at work, and it was easy to consume after my oatmeal breakfast. I really want to get some peaches so I can make a peach and honey milkshake with my vanilla ice cream.

And now, I'm back to grind.

Anyone else go in phases with food? I've noticed I do that a lot, and its often kind of season-related too.

  1. I go through food phases :) I just like to experiment and get overly excited about a new or renewed product in my life.

    You're making me want a smoothie!! And I don't have a friggin' blender >>

  2. Scrummy in my tummy! Those look so good. Love the peach/honey/vanilla idea too. Sadly peaches are definitely not in season yet over here, but I guess canned peaches would still be good:)
I am such a phase person in terms of food, recently it's been beans! Chickpeas, kidney beans, lentils, I just can't get enough of them! Haha, a bit weird I guess...
    Love xoxo

  3. o yes food phases define my life lol!!!!! i dont know i was always scared that simply drinking shakes wouldnt keep me full, but you seem to have proven tht idea wrong! current food phases, greek yogurt. some days i have 2 a day! ahh what is my body trying to say?!?! i luv you!!

  4. mmmmm love smoothies !! they are the best <3

  5. I def do that! I mean it used to be veggie omletes every day. Now.. of course it's oatmeal creations. But thats perfectly fine and those smoothies look amazing!

  6. those smoothies look awesome!! I can't wait until it is warm enough for me to crave them again!

  7. ah the last one sounds really good, i must make one of these! such great smoothie ideas! and ah food phases gah i have gone through a load of them!thinking about it, it is a bit ridiculous...i have gone through so many!...and yes the seasons do influences that a lot, but so does my ed, and fears start to arise etc. but i think i am finding the way i like to eat, but i love eating seasonally!

    love you

  8. I always freeze my banana or strawberries with the intention to make a good smoothie...but I always end up changing my mind and make 'sorbet/ice cream thing' instead. Guess I'm stuck with this Sorbet phase :p

Thanks for your lovely word: there's always hope :)

  9. YUM - I never tried a Green Monster, but I´m pretty sure it tastes amazing!
    Have a great week, girl!
    Brazilian XOXO´s,

  10. My last 6 months or so has been all about the shakes in the morning! It's a great way to add calories to breakfast, or as a post workout snack when I'm just really thirsty but know I need to refuel. PS. chocolate will cover up anything green you put in it, and frozen bananas make them super creamy and sweet :)

  11. I definitely go through food phases and I think it is normal. In worst phases of my disease I wasn't able to accept phases, I just ate the same things round about- I ate one particular cereals type for 2 years. I remember being so puzzled and anxious couple of years ago because the season of persimons and pomegranates were over and they were to expensive for me to eat on every day basis.

I am making smoothies and shakes really often, because they are liquid and real food at the same time- I sometimes put oats there for extra carbs. I like weid combinations like banana and black currant with caramel sirup or banana with beetroot, ginger and almond milk. Strange inspirations:)
Thank you for this blog, for recovery and seasonal/phases eating inspirations!

  12. I definitely go through phases where I crave certain foods all the time. Right now I am going through an apple obsession. I crave them all the time. I went through a phase where I cooked Thai food constantly too. Weird, lol.

  13. These smoothies look tasty delicious, so I'm going to be testing them out!

For phases with me, it's sushi. One month I could eat my weight in it, the next I could care less. Possibly the same with smoothies too, especially now the weather is nicer. Hopefully I won't burn myself out!

  14. Those look so good :) I'm always so hesitant to get out the blender, because it's so hard to clean. Lazy, I know.

I agree with Ola ... I think going through food phases is part of natural eating because tastes/seasons change. When I had just started eating more & recovering, I ate the EXACT SAME THINGS and would flip out at the most minor changes, because every piece of food was mathematically calculated to last as long as possible, be as delicious as possible, and have as few cals as possible.

Right now, I'm in a toast phase: Toast + PB, Toast + Jelly, Toast + Cream Cheese, Toast + Banana, French Toast, and so on.

  15. I must start making smoothies again :) Tori, thank you so much for your comment on my last post, really, really thank you. It's so surreal isn't it? The thought that just maybe, we are finally 'getting better.' And that just maybe we can be happy without anorexia. No, we're not quite there and yes, we have a long way to go but we will keep pushing, and pushing, and finally we will break free.
    Lots and love,
    Jem xxxx

  16. Yep once I fix myself on one thing I eat it until I don't like it anymome...I do this with clothing as well!

  17. Haha, I'm so with you on the shake thing. I used to have a fruit and soymilk shake EVERY breakfast. By the way your shakes sound delish - must try making one myself ;)
